Scary? Beautiful?
Or both?
Following my
last post, today I decide to write about the scariest shoes ever made. However today I am not going to make a list of
them, but present only one model.
Not long
ago I found a pretty interesting and at the same time terrifying video on YouTube.
The video was created as an advertisement of the according to my opinion most strange
looking shoes ever made. The shoes are turned backwards and their front part is
actually the heel.
The plot of
the video represents a ballerina who is sliding her foot into a ballerina toe
shoe like pad and must try to walk forward. During the whole video she is
trying to balance her shins against the heel. The shoe gave the ballerina an awkward,
stork-like walk.

The shoes
were conceptualized by artist Leanie van der Vyver and made by the shoe
designer Rene van den Berg. Many gave them the tag Scary Beautiful.

However
these shoes are not made for walking. Leanie van der Vyler created the strange
looking shoes as part of her academic design thesis. The goal behind these
shoes was to challenge in a way the current beauty ideal by proposing an
alternative beauty standard. It can be categorize as a way of fashion
manipulation.
